The Oasis Hospital, Al Ain invests in Lincor’s MEDIVista Bedside Computing Solution to Improve Patient Care

Lincor are delighted to announce that in conjunction with their local partner Emitac, they have secured the contract to install MEDIVista at the Oasis Hospital in Al Ain, UAE.

The Oasis Hospital will install state-of-the-art bedside computers from Lincor Solutions, to provide staff and patients with access to clinical and multimedia applications at the point of care. The Oasis system includes specially designed touch screen computers installed at every bed for accessing critical hospital management and diagnostic systems, while also offering a suite of entertainment, education and communications services to patients.

Lincor is the leading global provider of bedside computing solutions for hospitals. Its MEDIVista solution, already installed at 20,000 hospital beds around the world, is designed to enhance patient care, improve the patient experience and increase operational effectiveness. The solution is based on the most advanced beside device on the market which is fully integrated with clinical, picture archiving and hospital management systems to meet the needs of clinicians, patients and hospital administration personnel.

“As the first hospital in the emirate of Abu Dhabi, we have been at the front end of many healthcare firsts in the country and we are proud to carry on that tradition. The Oasis Hospital is excited to be partnering with Lincor to provide a state-of-the-art solution that enhances the patient experience as well as aids the clinicians,” commented Brad Kellogg, Senior Vice President of Facility Management and Safety, Oasis Hospital. “Patient wellbeing and outcomes will be improved by giving doctors and nurses the information they need, when and where they need it.”

“The Oasis Hospital continues to be a high performing, patient-focused hospital serving its community by providing quality and excellence in patient care,” said Canice McKee, Sales Manager, Middle East, Lincor Solutions. “By delivering more services and applications direct to the point-of-care, with MEDIVista, it is optimizing its investments in technology and infrastructure, while improving patient safety and experience.”

Richard Cooke , CEO of Lincor added “ We are delighted that the Oasis Hospital has chosen to work with Lincor and our local partners Emitac . We are confident that our MEDIVista technology will improve the patient experience and assist both clinicians and nursing as it has done in over 90 other leading hospitals worldwide”

The Oasis Hospital is the 1st hospital in the United Arab Emirates to install Lincor’s MEDIVista solution. It provides television, phone, internet, games, video telephony, educational content and hospital information, all on a secure, sterile bedside PC. Doctors and nurses can also use the same device to access patient records and clinical applications, and to record observations in real-time eliminating the need for additional hardware on the wards and the error-prone practice of re-keying information.

Lincor’s MEDIVista solution includes applications for improving the effectiveness of hospital processes such as catering and bed management. It offers an ideal platform for distributing and managing patient surveys, whether they are required for regulatory purposes or to support business intelligence and patient relationship management. At the same time hospitals can mitigate the cost of providing essential clinical bedside access by generating revenue from patient entertainment and other services.

St.Mary’s Healthcare System for Children Invests in Lincor ‘s Bedside Computing Solution to Improve Patient Care at their new Hospital

Bayside, NY, February 17th, 2012: St.Mary’s Healthcare System for Children is set to install MEDIVista Bedside technology from Lincor Solutions at their new facility due for completion later this year. Lincor’s state-of-the art touch screen platform will enable nurses and clinicians to automate certain routine tasks at the Patient Bedside and get direct access to the electronic patient files, thereby reducing paperwork and improving efficiency, patient care and clinical outcomes. For patients, the system provides access at the bedside to both educational content and multimedia entertainment services such as TV, high speed Internet, Video messaging and Movies on demand.

Ireland headquartered Lincor, set up in 2003 by ex- Apple Computer executives is the leading global provider of intelligent point -of -care bedside computing solutions for hospitals, with over 21,000 systems installed at more than 95 hospitals around the world. Lincor’s touchscreen technology has been designed to enhance patient care, improve the patient experience and increase operational effectiveness. The solution is based on the most advanced bedside device on the market which is fully integrated with clinical, diagnostic and hospital management systems to meet the needs of clinicians, patients and hospital administration personnel.

“When we were first introduced to the MEDIVista product over 3 years ago we were very excited as we did not know there was a product with this type of capabilities on the market. The more we saw what it could do, the more it suited our idea on what a new and very modern facility like ours could offer the kids and staff at the bedside.” Said Dr.Eddie Simpser, Executive VP and Chief Medical Office at St.Mary’s. “Having a computer at the bedside is essential in my view but the excellent software functionality of MEDIVista will reduce paperwork for staff, improve the level of care for the kids while also making for a better patient experience.”

St.Mary’s is the 2nd leading Children’s hospital to install MEDIVista. Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital in London, UK installed their system in 2011 at all 304 beds. This is something that Lincor CEO Richard Cooke is very excited about. “We are delighted that St. Mary’s has chosen Lincor as their preferred solution and we feel privileged to provide a great technology for patients, visitors and staff at St.Mary’s which will improve care and allows kids and their families to stay in touch with the outside world.

“From a clinician point of view, they will be able to access and update the children’s medical records in real time, monitor them remotely through a built in webcam if necessary and essentially do everything at the bedside that clinicians can do at their desk. For the kids, it will mean they can view patient specific educational content, watch or record their favorite TV program, go on-line to their friends, hook up their x-box to the device and even tune into any live video broadcasts that we will be putting on internally.” Said Dr.Simsper. “We intend to maximize the use of this device in our day-to-day as we move forward.”

St.Mary’s is the 7th installation for Lincor in the USA and is a market where they are seeing much more interest in their product in the last 2 years.

Lincor currently has 4 installations in the Canadian market.

Lincor will be showcasing at the upcoming HIMSS show in Las Vegas at Booth 1470 on Feb 20-24.

Lincor Solutions attributes success to its outstanding technology and its international sales and marketing strategy

25th October 2011 — Lincor Solutions Ltd today announced that it ranked number 4 in the 2011 Deloitte Technology Fast 50 , a ranking of the 50 fastest growing technology companies in Ireland. Rankings are based on average percentage revenue growth over five years. Lincor Solutions grew 1846% during this period.

Lincor Solutions’s CEO, Richard Cooke, credits its market leading, patented technology and a great team at Lincor with the company’s 1,846% revenue growth over the past five years. He said, “We are entirely focussed on our target market in hospitals and we deliver the best solution possible to the point of care in hospitals that reduces costs, improves clinical care and the patient experience. At a time when hospitals budgets everywhere are increasingly under pressure, use of innovative technologies is key to sustaining and indeed improving patient care. Lincor is now the largest supplier in the world of Bedside Computing for hospitals and this success is reflected in our unique record in the Deloitte Fast 50 competition – placing first in 2008, 2nd in 2009 and now 4th in 2011.”

The Fast 50 programme, now in its twelfth year in Ireland, ranks the fastest-growing technology companies in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. This year, there are 14 companies from Northern Ireland in the ranking. The average growth rate of the Fast 50 companies named in this year’s ranking is 674%.

Announcing the winners of the Technology Fast 50 programme, David O’Flanagan, Partner, Deloitte said: “Looking at the list of Deloitte Fast 50 winners in 2011, it becomes clear that we are witnessing the second wave of Irish technology companies starting to mature. In 2001, companies such as Conduit, Horizon Technologies and Iona were riding high as Fast 50 winners; ten years on and there are new kids on the block who mirror their predecessors in having great ideas and understand that to grow they have to go global.”

The awards took place in the Dublin Convention Centre on Friday 21st October. Industry figures speaking at the event included Maurice Mortell, Managing Director, Telecity Group Plc (former CEO Data Electronics) and Regina Moran, CEO, Fujitsu. Sponsors of the event were William Fry and Tughans.

Despite the best efforts of medical and support staff as many as one in ten patients are harmed (or killed) by medical errors according to the World Health Organisation. The Institute of Medicine’s report ‘To Err is Human’ identified that between 44,000 to 98,000 deaths each year in the US are due to medical error. The various types of errors can include misdiagnoses, clinical omissions, procedural errors and medication errors. In the case of medication-related error, it is estimated that over one million serious medication errors occur each year in US hospitals causing an estimated 7,000 deaths.

Hospitals around the world are striving to reduce this problem in the interest of improving clinical outcomes and patient care. The root causes are many, but include such contributing factors as fatigue, distraction, lack of knowledge, poor communication and even deliberate wrongdoing. Report after report has shown that judicious deployment of information technology can dramatically reduce the instance of errors. Bedside computing solutions are the last link in the chain between a hospital’s clinical IT systems providing clinicians with up-to-date information at the point of care, ensuring compliance with safeguards such as “the five rights” process for administering medications, and reducing the need for handwritten paper notes and re-keying of information.

In its report “Improving Health Sector Efficiency The Role of Information and Communication Technologies” the OECD outlines how better deployment of IT can contribute to improved care delivery by providing medical staff with secure and timely access to the information they need for diagnosis, treatment and management of patients. Bedside computers enable clinicians to securely access the relevant clinical systems at the point of care for:

more efficient management of patient care pathways

accurate and timely entering of real-time observations,

real-time review and update patient records

ordering/view medical tests, results and prescriptions

enabling better and more transparent collaborate across care teams

Concern over care also extends beyond the patient’s stay in hospital. By providing patients with relevant information about their illness, aftercare, rehabilitation and their medication can dramatically reduce recovery time and helps avoid unnecessary re-admissions. Bedside computers can be used to deliver highly personalized and intuitive education packages as part of the patient discharge process using interactive technology to ensure the patient has understood.

The specially designed MEDIVista bedside computers will provide children and their families with intuitive access to TV, games and Internet. They will also allow clinical staff to review electronic medical records, make real-time updates, manage treatment plans and record observations when they are at their patient’s bedside. Lincor’s bedside computers are already installed at more than 20,000 beds in 80 hospitals around the world, including Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in the UK.

By providing access to patient entertainment and clinical applications on the same secure device the bedside system eliminates the need for additional hardware in the rooms and thus helps to maintain a more homely feel. The interface is designed to be easy to use by patients of all ages, while access to the clinical panel and patient medical records is protected by smart card technology thus ensuring high security standards are maintained. The solution is based on state-of-the-art touchscreen computers with integrated telephone handsets and barcode readers.

Richard Cooke, Chief Executive Officer at Lincor Solutions says, “The MEDIVista solution offers clinicians secure and timely access to their patient’s medical information contributing to improved efficiencies and enhancing continuity of care. Patients benefit from a wide range of entertainment and communication services thus improving their experience while receiving medical treatment. It is wonderful to help the Children’s Sunshine Home with the fit-out of LauraLynn House as we know the staff are determined to make the children and their families as comfortable as possible during their stay.”

Philomena Dunne, CEO, Children’s Sunshine Home added, “We are very grateful for the wonderful support shown by Lincor Solutions, these highly intelligent systems will bring great benefits for both the children and our staff. It is thanks to the generosity of organisations like Lincor Solutions and thousands of individuals around the country that LauraLynn House has become a reality.”

Due to formally open in September, LauraLynn House will provide community-based paediatric palliative and respite care in a unit designed and built specifically for this purpose. The house has eight bedrooms each with an en-suite facility and comfortable living accommodation. Family apartments will enable families to come and stay and be near their child. The team caring for children and their families includes Medical Director, Consultant Paediatrician, Nursing Team, Physiotherapists, Dietician, Social Worker, Speech & Language Therapist, Chaplain and Volunteers.

There are approximately 350 child deaths and more than 1,400 children living with life limiting or threatening conditions in Ireland each year. There are currently more than 42 children’s hospices in the UK.

Patient Care and Clinical Outcomes: Patient care and safety are the primary concerns for hospitals and healthcare deliver organizations, better use of technology (at the right time and in the right place) can help to improve clinical outcomes and reduce the risk of errors.

Cost and Efficiency: Like all businesses and public bodies hospitals need to improve efficiency, reduce cost and increase income to continue to provide the widest access to care under challenging budgetary conditions.

Patient Demands and Experience: Patients want better services, and hospitals are looking to improve the patient experience.

Technology: Hospitals depend more and more on technology to deliver improved quality of care. Bedside computing offers an ideal platform for the timely delivery of the widest variety of applications to the point-of-care, to support the needs of patients, clinicians and support staff.

Legislation: Government legislation and regulation is driving organizations to look to using IT to improve healthcare delivery.

We will use our experience and that of our customers around the world to add to the debate about all these issues, so watch this space.

May 10, 2011: Lincor Solutions has rolled-out Hospital Bed Management and Patient Meal Ordering applications for its MEDIVista bedside computing platform. The applications are part of Lincor’s drive to deliver more services on its market leading bedside computing platform, to enable hospitals to improve clinical outcomes, boost operational efficiency and enhance patient experience.

Lincor MEDIVista is the leading bedside computing solution for hospitals and healthcare delivery organisations. The solution currently serves nearly 20,000 beds in 80 hospitals and care facilities in Europe, North America and Asia-Pacific. Our customers, who include Centre Hospitalier de la Régiond’Annecy, Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children and University Hospital Leuven, use MEDIVista to provide real-time access to a full range of clinical, diagnostic, information, entertainment and management applications at the point-of-care.

“With MEDIVista it is very cost effective to deliver critical applications to the point-of-care for use by clinicians, support staff and patients,” said Richard Cooke, Chief Executive Officer at Lincor Solutions. “Patient Meal Ordering and Hospital Bed Management are the latest in a range of services, from Lincor and third-party developers, that can be provided at the patient bedside to dramatically improve clinical care, enhance the patient experience and increase operational effectiveness.”

MEDIVista Patient Meal Ordering is an online food ordering and dietary management system that provides patients with an interactive and intuitive way of ordering their meals while in hospital. The application, which is centrally managed and accessed on MEDIVista bedside computers, delivers significant improvements in patient care, patient choice and patient experience while enabling hospitals to reduce cost and improve effectiveness by eliminating the need to manually collect food orders from each patient. Patient Meal Ordering also enables hospitals to reduce waste and manage patients’ dietary requirements, and provides the potential to generate revenue from premium menu items, extra portions, or additional meals for visitors.

Hospital Bed Management from Lincor Solutions is aimed at helping hospitals to optimise the use and supply of beds on the ward. The easy to use system allows nursing staff to indicate when a bed is ready for cleaning, or has been vacated, by simply clicking on the appropriate icon on the MEDIVista screen. Once the bed is cleaned and ready for use its status is changed, which means hospitals can track hospital-wide bed availability in real-time.

“By delivering more services and applications such as Patient Meal Ordering and Hospital Bed Management direct to the patient bedside hospitals can optimise clinical automation, business intelligence, operational efficiency and security, while dramatically improving clinical outcomes, safety and patient experience,” said Cooke.
